How the money works

You never pay for blood. You pay for the coordination.

Blood is always a free, voluntary gift. One transparent fee covers the real cost of getting a screened donor safely to the ward, and it's charged only when a donor is confirmed.

Where every franc goes

62% goes straight to the donor and screening.

8,000 of every 13,000 FCFA pays for the donor's costs and the health checks that keep the blood supply safe. The rest runs the service and keeps it sustainable without depending on grants.

Paid only on a match

No donor, no charge. The fee is requested only after a verified donor says yes.

Automatic refund

If the confirmed donor doesn't show, the requester is refunded.

Your PIN, your receipt

Approved in MTN MoMo with your own PIN. Receipted and traceable.

Never for blood

The donor is paid nothing for the blood itself. That's the law, and it keeps supply safe.

No one is turned away

The Solidarity Access Fund.

When a family can't afford the fee, they're still matched for free, with the same donor, the same speed and the same care. Nothing about their case is second-class, and the donor never knows who paid.

  • A fixed share of every paid coordination fee
  • Pay-it-forward top-ups from families who can add a little
  • Subsidy from NGO, programme and funder partners
1 in 5Pilot target: at least one in every five coordinations fully subsidised.

Money questions

Straight answers

Why is there a fee at all?

Getting a screened donor to a ward at night costs real money: transport, a meal, airtime, screening tests, payment and messaging costs, and the people verifying and coordinating each request. The fee covers those costs so the service doesn't depend on grants to stay alive.

Does any of the fee reach the donor as payment?

No. The donor-care portion reimburses transport, a meal and airtime so that giving never costs the donor. It's never a payment for blood.

When exactly am I charged?

Only after a verified donor accepts your request. The MoMo prompt arrives on your phone and you approve it with your own PIN.

What if the donor doesn't come?

You're refunded, and we keep searching for another donor.

How do I apply for the Solidarity Access Fund?

Just tell LifeDrop in the chat that you can't cover the fee. You'll be matched the same way, with no paperwork in an emergency.
