Good questions

The things people ask us first.

Straight answers on safety, money and trust, the parts that matter when a stranger's life is on the line.

Getting started

What is LifeDrop?

LifeDrop is an emergency blood coordination service on WhatsApp. We verify a blood request with the hospital, find screened voluntary donors nearby who match, and get one to the transfusion desk. Payment goes through MTN MoMo.

Is the WhatsApp line live?

Yes. The LifeDrop line is live in Buea at +237 686 001 785. You can also walk through a simulated version in the interactive demo.

Which number do I message?

For a blood request or to register as a donor, message the LifeDrop line: +237 686 001 785. For questions, hospital partnerships, sponsors or press, message customer service: +237 682 333 905.

Do I need to download an app?

No. LifeDrop lives entirely inside WhatsApp. It works on a mid-range Android phone with limited data, in English or French.

Where does LifeDrop operate?

We're live in Buea, and expanding across the South-West Region next. If you're elsewhere in Cameroon, message us anyway. It helps us decide where to go next.

Donors

Do donors get paid for blood?

No, and they never will. Blood is a free, voluntary gift. Paying for blood is unsafe and illegal, because it pushes people to hide health risks. The coordination fee covers a donor's transport, meal, airtime and screening; it never reaches the donor as payment for blood.

Who can donate?

Generally healthy adults who pass screening at a partner hospital. The final decision on eligibility is always made by clinicians on the day.

How often will I be contacted?

Only when someone nearby needs your blood type and you're eligible. After you donate we pause alerts for 90 days. Reply STOP at any time to pause messages.

I don't know my blood group. Can I still join?

Yes. Your blood group is confirmed during your free screening at a partner hospital.

Families & requests

How do you know a blood request is real?

We verify each request with the hospital ward, usually through the request slip or the transfusion desk, before alerting a single donor. In a genuine, life-threatening emergency we alert donors and verify in parallel, so help is already moving while the ward confirms.

What's the coordination fee?

13,000 FCFA, paid through MTN MoMo and charged only when a donor is confirmed. It covers the donor's transport, meal and airtime, their health screening, MoMo and messaging costs, and running the service. See the full breakdown.

What if my family can't pay?

You are never turned away. The Solidarity Access Fund covers you with the same donor, the same speed and the same care. It's funded by a fixed share of every paid fee, pay-it-forward top-ups and partner subsidies.

What if the donor doesn't show up?

You're refunded automatically, and we keep looking.

Safety & privacy

How do you keep donors safe?

Every donor is screened at a partner hospital (blood typing, haemoglobin, blood pressure and infectious-disease testing) before they're matched. We enforce a 90-day recovery window, ask a short health questionnaire, and leave every medical decision to a clinician.

What happens to my personal data?

We keep only what's needed to match you: blood group, area and availability. Health answers are used only to protect you and are never shared with a patient or their family. Your number is shared with a hospital only after you say yes to a specific match. Reply STOP to pause messages, or DELETE to erase your record. See our privacy notice.

Do test results pass through WhatsApp?

No. No test results or diagnoses ever pass through the chat. They stay with the hospital.

Hospitals, partners & investors

How can a hospital partner with LifeDrop?

Message our partnerships team on +237 682 333 905. We'll set up a call with your transfusion lead and agree pilot terms. See For hospitals.

Can our organisation sponsor matches?

Yes. NGOs, maternal-health programmes, insurers and funders can cover coordination fees for the families they serve, or fund the Solidarity Access Fund directly.

I'm a journalist or investor. Who do I talk to?

Message us on +237 682 333 905 and the founder will get back to you.
