Live in Buea, Cameroon Β· WhatsApp + MTN MoMo

Emergency blood, coordinated in one WhatsApp chat.

When a patient needs blood, LifeDrop confirms the request with the ward, finds screened voluntary donors nearby by blood type and distance, and gets one to the transfusion desk. There's no app to download, and the family pays through MTN MoMo only once a donor confirms.

The problem

When a hospital runs short of blood, the family has to find a donor.

Relatives go from lab to lab and post "does anyone know an O– donor?" in every group chat they have. Willing donors exist. What's missing is a fast, trusted way to reach the right one in time.

31.5blood donations per 1,000 people a year in high-income countries
6.6in lower-middle-income countries, including Cameroon
~1%of a population giving blood each year: roughly the minimum a country needs

How it works

From one message to a donor at the desk.

See the full flow

Ask on WhatsApp

A family or ward messages LifeDrop with the hospital, blood group and units needed.

Verified by the ward

We confirm with the transfusion desk or request slip before a single donor is disturbed.

Matched and alerted

Blood type, distance and eligibility narrow the search. Donors answer yes or no with one tap.

Donor at the desk

The donor arrives with a code and an ETA, and the family pays the MoMo fee only now. Clinicians do the medicine.

One network, three sides

Built for the families, donors and hospitals in the chain.

Why WhatsApp

We built an app first. Our users kept messaging us on WhatsApp.

Before LifeDrop we tried a standalone donor app. Donors signed up, then forgot it was on their phone. Meanwhile "do you know an O– donor?" kept arriving in our personal chats at every hour. So we rebuilt everything inside WhatsApp and MTN MoMo, which people in Cameroon already use every day.

Zero install

If you have WhatsApp, you have LifeDrop.

Light on data

Text-first, built for everyday Android phones.

English & French

No one waits for a translation.

We kept asking people to come to our app. They kept asking us for help on WhatsApp. Eventually we stopped arguing with them and moved.

Business model

Paid per confirmed match. Never for blood.

The requester pays one coordination fee of 13,000 FCFA through MTN MoMo, and only after a verified donor says yes. It covers the donor's costs, screening and the service itself. A fixed share funds free matches for families who can't pay.

  • No donor, no charge. Refunded automatically if the donor doesn't show
  • Donors are never paid for blood: it's the law, and it keeps supply safe
  • Hospitals, NGOs and health programmes can sponsor coordinations
